As many may know from watching the May 20, 2024, Petaluma City Council budget workshop, the trestle rehabilitation project remains a priority within the FY 2024-2025 Capital Improvement Program Budget. More will follow as the budget undergoes additional review and adoption by the City Council. Sign up for meeting notifications here to keep updated on when that review and adoption will occur.

In the meantime, please comment on the General Plan Update Policy Frameworks to ensure that the trestle rehabilitation remains a priority for current and future city councils. Input is due by June 20th. So far, I’ve identified three frameworks where the trestle rehabilitation should be noted:
Economic Development
Policy ED-4.5 Invest in Downtown
Policy ED-6 Attract Visitors to Downtown
Parks
Goal P-3 Petaluma River Recreation
Policy P-4.1 Develop an Interconnected Public Space Network
Historic Resources
Guiding Principle #10
Policy HR-1.6 Prevent Demolition by Neglect
Policy HR-5.3 Promote Heritage Tourism

Thank you for making this digestible for us, taking action now with comments!
You’re most welcome. I’m so pleased that you’ve been inspired to take action. That’s the ultimate compliment.
Thank you for keeping us updated, Katherine. I appreciate all of the work you have put into this to provide this information for the community.
I will sign up for notifications ( embarrassed it’s taken this long) and send along my two cents to the council. I am old enough to remember gatherings on the trestle for early events of Butter and Egg days when we ( with John Fitzgeralds help) brought the Alma up for folks to see and board. We were able to bring attention to history and our beautiful turning basin. As far back as 1995 we were calling for the council to take action to make the trestle safe only to learn the complicated details involved. We have so many people to thank for getting it this far…now for the home stretch . You, Rosemary Hart, Chris and Elaine Stevick and so many others are to be whole-heartedly thanked for keeping this effort going. It will be a huge benefit to this community to get that promenade completed.
